Tasha Tudor

When I was in grade school, the librarian read us Fairy Tales from Hans Christian Andersen, illustrated by Tasha Tudor. I remember going to the library each week and anxiously waiting for the librarian to finish reading the book, so that I could check it out and look at the lovely illustrations. When I grew a little older, I delighted in her illustrations in The Secret Garden. As an adult, I still like Tasha Tudor’s illustrations. I also find pleasure in looking at photos of her amazing garden.

The other day, I came across the quote below from Tasha Tudor, and she endeared herself even more to me.

“I enjoy doing housework, ironing, washing, cooking, dishwashing. Whenever I get one of those questionaires and they ask what is your profession, I always put down housewife. It’s an admirable profession, why apologize for it. You aren’t stupid because you’re a housewife. When you’re stirring the jam you can read Shakespeare.”

I love Tasha Tudor, too. The other day I was going through my books, and I had forgotten how many of her books that I have collected. Not a lot, mind you, but at least 5. They are such a joy to look at!

I only have one Tasha Tudor book, but I think I need to buy more. I love supporting people who have beautiful hearts not just beautiful work. Thanks for sharing.

They are definitely a joy to look at! I think that you own more than me. I have to be content to check some of them out from the library.

You're welcome, Jennifer. If you don't already own them, I highly recommend A Child's Garden of Verses and The Secret Garden linked above. Our local Costco is currently carrying the hard cover of the latter for $7.99. Since we already own The Secret Garden, I didn't check to see if it is unabridged.

Amazing Christine! I just ordered a bunch of Tasha Tudor books the other day from the library, too! We must be thinking about our springtime plans for our gardens and cute little ones! Blessings, Kathleen L.

I'm definitely thinking about spring. I spent the last two days working outside in the garden. Hopefully, the rain stops long enough for me to do the same today. I am trying to convince Brendan to move four little trees for me (not an easy task) and a rhododendron. My little boys keep asking me to read to them.

I think that I know Beatrix Potter's Samuel Whiskers by heart. It's definitely time for a little Tasha Tudor soon.

I miss you and your family. God bless you!
